Artist's Thoughts

About the morning:

Explore monoprinting as art-making medium, using textured items, printing inks and a home-made gelli-slab.  I will step-by-step guide you through the printmaking process and demonstrate as we go along.  Monoprinting is a highly satisfying medium to experiment with.  It’s effortless and full of pleasant surprises!  Bring your friends or treat yourself to a morning of creative fun.

In this art making workshop where you will learn to:

  • Use gelli-plates to create monoprints; (I will provide a gelli-plate for every participant to work on.)
  • Experiment with colours / textures / shapes and stencils using a variety of printmaking objects, e.g. plant material / paper / fabric etc.

Please bring textured items for printing, such as soft plants and flowers; lace or textured fabric; paper cuttings, feathers, or anything else to create texture or shape in your monoprint. We can share the items between the group, so you do not have to bring a lot.  Also bring some old magazines and an apron.

I am so happy that we received permission from the Stellenbosh Botanical Garden to use some of the precious indigenous flora from the garden!  We will be escorted through the garden with pruning shears to collect these.

Refreshments:  Coffee or tea can be ordered from the restaurant.

Optional:

You are welcome to bring your own choice of art paper for your best prints: A3-size; 160gms or thicker; smooth, multimedia art paper.  Or any other interesting paper, such as wallpaper, tissue paper etc.

I will have enough paper available for everyone – but the larger the variety, the better!
