I’m absolutely delighted with this painting! The pastel-pink King Protea is beautifully surrounded by vibrant orange Pincushion flowers. I added touches of Blombos and delicate cream Helichrysums to introduce some brightness. The sense of movement captures the gentle breeze flowing through the fynbos landscape.

This artwork is part of my Unspoken series:

I have been painting the Cape Floral Kingdom for many years, and I continue my exploration of South Africa’s unique and biodiverse vegetation.  In my series, Unspoken, I explore the silent yet profound dialogue that nature facilitates.

When I spend time in nature, I become acutely aware of its silent voice, whispering its truths to me — whispers of hope, restoration, quietness, happiness, and peace. As a Christian, I recognize these quiet revelations as the voice of a higher presence, gently investing in my soul.

Through bold oil strokes and a high-contrast colour palette, I infuse my paintings with this unspoken language. I approach my canvas as a medium for introspection and understanding, embracing the notion that art communicates in ways words cannot fully capture.

By focusing on fynbos, a symbol of resilience and delicate beauty, Unspoken invites the viewer to immerse themselves in nature’s silent narratives, fostering a deeper connection to emotions it evokes – knowing that the deepest truths often transcend words.
