In 2013, for an exhibition (Zivaglo, light show) during the Stellenbosch Woordfees (Word Festival), I worked in collaboration with a group of creatives to put together an art production. I was challenged by a friend to create a three-dimensional artwork from a two-dimensional drawing. This is what we came up with: making a drawing on durable art paper and then presenting it in a vase – the drawing becomes the sculpture. The drawings are made with pen-and-ink and enhanced with drawing ink, watercolour and oil paint. I used an underglaze graphite pencil to draw the stem of the flower onto the vase before the second firing. The inside of the vase is glazed and can also be used for fresh flowers. Over the years I have created many of these artworks and still enjoy making them.
