Abstract fynbos landscape 3000x1500mm (Unspoken series)

It was an absolute joy for me to create this painting!

It was a commissioned piece for German clients, for their apartment in Sea Point, Cape Town. They wanted a statement piece in abstracted forms and a prescribed colour palette. I decided to focus on yellow Helichrysum Italicum and Leucospermum flowers. I painted them in a very free, abstracted manner onto this giant canvas. It took many many hours; days and months to complete. And my clients absolutely love it! That makes my artist heart so happy.

I love the sense of movement, vibrant energy, and bold, abstract fynbos shapes that dance across the canvas in this free-flowing composition of this large-scale abstract fynbos painting (3m x 1.5m)

This artwork is part of my Unspoken series:

I have been painting the Cape Floral Kingdom for many years, and I continue my exploration of South Africa’s unique and biodiverse vegetation.  In my series, Unspoken, I explore the silent yet profound dialogue that nature facilitates.

When I spend time in nature, I become acutely aware of its silent voice, whispering its truths to me — whispers of hope, restoration, quietness, happiness, and peace. As a Christian, I recognize these quiet revelations as the voice of a higher presence, gently investing in my soul.

Through bold oil strokes and a high-contrast colour palette, I infuse my paintings with this unspoken language. I approach my canvas as a medium for introspection and understanding, embracing the notion that art communicates in ways words cannot fully capture.

By focusing on fynbos, a symbol of resilience and delicate beauty, Unspoken invites the viewer to immerse themselves in nature’s silent narratives, fostering a deeper connection to emotions it evokes – knowing that the deepest truths often transcend words.
