Fynbos Erica (Unspoken series) 1600x900mm

Title: Fynbos Erica (Unspoken series)
Size: 1600 x 900mm
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
Year: 2025

This painting was made as a commission for clients who loved one of my previous pieces and asked me to create a painting in the same colour scheme and feel.

It is filled with movement as the breeze on Table Mountain catches the white Erica flowers and Restios. I love the limited palette that I used for this piece and hope the painting bring my clients much joy!

This artwork is part of my Unspoken series:

I have been painting the Cape Floral Kingdom for many years, and I continue my exploration of South Africa’s unique and biodiverse vegetation.  In my series, Unspoken, I explore the silent yet profound dialogue that nature facilitates.

When I spend time in nature, I become acutely aware of its silent voice, whispering its truths to me — whispers of hope, restoration, quietness, happiness, and peace. As a Christian, I recognize these quiet revelations as the voice of a higher presence, gently investing in my soul.

Through bold oil strokes and a high-contrast colour palette, I infuse my paintings with this unspoken language. I approach my canvas as a medium for introspection and understanding, embracing the notion that art communicates in ways words cannot fully capture.

By focusing on fynbos, a symbol of resilience and delicate beauty, Unspoken invites the viewer to immerse themselves in nature’s silent narratives, fostering a deeper connection to emotions it evokes – knowing that the deepest truths often transcend words.
