The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway was closed for annual maintenance in July and August 2017. This time was used to improve the interiors of the buildings and I was commissioned to make two new artworks for the Shop at the Top, as well as the Kiosk on the mountain. The artworks were then scanned, digitally enlarged and printed as wallpaper and installed in the shop interiors. Both artworks have Pincushion flowers as theme and are done in an yellow pallet.

The artwork for the Shop at the Top is made in mixed media: a pen-and-ink drawing in brown and black drawing inks. I used yellow ink and oil paint in the background. Enlarging the artwork accentuates even the smallest art markings – the texture of the paper contributes to making the visual effect interesting and true to the medium used.
The artwork I made for the Kiosk on Table Mountain, is a lino print of a Pincushion flower. The image has been carefully cut into the linolium, using fine chissles and lino-cutting tools. Black printer’s ink is then rolled onto the relief. I used watercolour paint and acrylic drawing ink to add colour to the piece.
